Established
in 1907, Alford Lake Camp continues its tradition
of providing adventure and fun for girls ages eight
to fifteen in a friendly atmosphere of simple outdoor
living. Today the program choices include challenging
extended trips and international experiences for teenage
girls and boys, as well as counselor training for
older girls.

Generations of campers and counselors now share friendship
and memories of a summer in ALC's camper-oriented
world. |
|
Located less than 10 miles inland from Maine's costal
towns of Camden and Rockport, Alford Lake Camp offers
over 400 acres of beautiful secluded woods and open
fields with a mile and a third of lake frontage. Campers
and leaders will typically represent 25 states and
20 countries, adding exciting dimensions to our camp
community. |
Counselors at Alford Lake Camp are of college age
and older; many have been ALC Campers and many return
for several summers. The ratio of staff to campers
is 1:3, assuring campers a strong sense of security
and a climate of positive growth. |
ALC is a place where campers with diverse interests
and abilities can find opportunities for friendship,
achievement and discovery. As trust grows and skills
improve, campers more willingly reach out to others,
to new experiences and new ideas. Campers may become
more flexible, more independent, and more accepting
of individual differences. |
|
Living successfully away from home enhances self-confidence
and self-esteem; the enthusiastic and supportive environment
of camp helps campers connect with positive role models
and reinforces strong traditional family values. |
|
A quality long-term camp experience is an educational
investment. Amid laughter, fun and exploration, campers
gain sensitivity and respect for one another and the
natural world they share. ALC campers often return
to their families and communities better prepared
to make responsible choices in their daily lives.
|
The simplicity of camp living sharpens one's focus
allowing campers to see what is truly important,
yet strengthens one's ability to uncover new possibilities.
